The U.S. Defense Department has said joint military drills between Washington and Seoul will go ahead as planned in March, according to Radio Free Asia.
The report came Monday amid speculation the annual exercises could be postponed to create an atmosphere of peace as South Korea pushes for declaring a formal end to the Korean War.
A Pentagon spokesperson said there was no change to a plan discussed during a meeting of defense chiefs from the two countries last November.
At the time, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and his South Korean counterpart, Suh Wook, agreed to hold two command post exercises, one in the spring and the other in the fall, to maintain a heightened readiness posture.
The spokesperson did not provide specific details such as dates or whether the drills would involve field training.
