Parliamentary Speaker Park Byeong-seug will visit China next month and attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Park is scheduled to be there from February 3-6 at the invitation of Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the National Assembly said Tuesday.
The officials are expected to discuss ways to boost exchanges between the parliaments of the two countries as they mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
Park will also participate in a luncheon hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and meet with South Korean residing in the country.
His visit will be separate from the government's official delegation to the Olympics.

Several countries have joined a U.S.-led diplomatic boycott of Winter Games in response to international outcry over China's human rights abuses.
South Korea said it is not considering a boycott and plans to dispatch a delegation in hopes it will contribute to peace and prosperity in East Asia and promote inter-Korean relations.
