President Moon Jae-in stressed on Wednesday the importance of remaining vigilant against COVID-19 amid the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.
But he said there is no need to be overly anxious about the sharp spike in infections as antivirus measures in place could lessen the impact of an Omicron wave.
The president made the remark during a special meeting on the government's response to thevirus while calling on officials to take preemptive steps to block more transmissions of the highly contagious variant.
Moon also called on authorities to secure more hospital beds for infected children and told them to consider lowering the price of self-test kits and provide free kits to low income households.
