Huawei Technologies has vowed to purchase more telecommunication parts from South Korea amid U.S. sanctions on the Chinese company.

Karl Song Kai, head of Huawei's global media and communications, also said at a press meeting in Seoul today the company plans to increase its investment in Korea.

The remarks come as Huawei is turning its eyes to non-American vendors after U.S. sanctions on the company, effectively preventing the Chinese firm from buying American-made parts such as chips and software.

Huawei purchased 11 billion dollars worth of products in South Korea this year, up from last year's 10.6 billion dollars.

The tech company has been strengthening ties with Korean telecom operators since it launched an office here in 2007.■
