Quarantine efforts are under way at the joint inter-Korean liaison office in the North Korean city of Kaesong amid the rapid spread of a new coronavirus from China.

Seoul's unification ministry said today the North requested South Korean staff at the office to wear masks.

The ministry said it is providing its entire staff with masks and hand sanitizers.

It added officials from South Korea's health ministry are using thermal imaging cameras to detect possible fevers in its personnel that travel to the North for work.

Earlier, North Korea reportedly closed its borders to all foreign tourists as a precaution to the coronavirus.■
