North Korean state media reports the country is on high alert to minimize damage from an approaching powerful typhoon.
According to the Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, North Korea issued a typhoon warning and has enforced various measures to minimize damage and disruptions to its people and major facilities.
The KCNA said water pumps were in place to drain water from coal mines and generation plants being closely monitored for any possibility of damage from lightning and wind gusts.
Additionally, it said efforts have been made to prevent landslides near railways, while ships along the western coast have been evacuated.
North Korea is reportedly still struggling in the aftermath of recent heavy downpours that battered the Korean Peninsula, and sees the approaching typhoon as possibly much stronger than Typhoon Lingling, which devastated many areas of the country last September.
Typhoon Bavi is expected to make landfall on the North's southwestern Hwanghae Province Thursday, bringing strong wind gusts and more heavy rains.
