The head of the World Food Program has called for more international cooperation to improve North Korea's food situation.
Executive Director David Beasley made the remarks in a video keynote speech Thursday at a peace forum held in the South Korean city of Yanggu.
He raised concerns over a "growing threat" from extreme weather caused by climate change, referring to a series of droughts and floods that impacted crops in the North last year.
Beasley said the United Nations agency stands ready "to respond to these sudden emergencies whenever, wherever they occur."
But he said the world needs to do more to help.
Although the reclusive state claims to be coronavirus-free, its tight border controls aimed at staving off the pandemic are also believed to be taking a toll on food supplies.
