Police in Australia have launched an inquiry into the operation that ended a siege at a cafe in central Sydney resulting in the deaths of two hostages and the gunman.
Flags are flying at half mast as people have come in their hundreds to lay flowers outside the cafe.
The Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that the gunman, Iranian born Man Haron Monis, had a history of criminal charges, religiously inspired activism and mental instability.
Abbott said he was proud how the Australian people have responded to the tragedy.■ (0:19)
