South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha shakes hands with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ahead of their meeting in New York on July 20th, 2018.
Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha says sanctions against North Korea will not be eased.
Kang reiterated the stance while speaking to reporters at Incheon International Airport early this morning after arriving from New York.
She said she also held discussions with the U.N. Security Council about getting a "partial" waiver for sanctions against the North to further facilitate communications between the two Koreas.
Kang returned from her first official trip to the United Kingdom and a stop in the U.S. where she briefed her counterparts on the dialogue process between Seoul and Pyongyang and the dismantlement of the North's nuclear weapons program.
She also gave a joint briefing with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the U.N. Security Council on Friday, where the members all agreed on the necessity of keeping sanctions against the North in place.■
