Amid the extreme heat that has been gripping the Korean Peninsula, the government has assured the country's power supply remains stable.
In its daily forecast today, the Korea Power Exchange predicted the maximum electricity load to reach 89.5 million kilowatts between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the power supply reserve ratio to hover at a stable level of 10.6 percent, or 9.51 million kilowatts.
The energy ministry said it expects power demands will start declining on Friday, when the peak summer vacation season kicks off, before rising again from the second week of August.
It also reported that it did not foresee any serious problems, saying it will seek to expand the country's power generation capacity by at least 1 million kilowatts and secure a reserve of 6.8 million kilowatts.■
