The 2018 World Cup has kicked off with host nation Russia beating Saudi Arabia five-nil.
Russia's win on Thursday was its first in 16 years since the 2002 World Cup Games.
The opening ceremony was held at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, with future games to be played across 11 Russian cities in 12 different stadiums over the World Cup period.
South Korea is in Group F and will face Sweden next Monday at 9 p.m. Korea time.
Here in Seoul, the metropolitan government is expected to host street cheering events at Seoul Plaza and Gwanghwamun Plaza, where a giant 500-inch screen will be set up to support the South Korean team.■
