South Korea defeated Jordan 2-1 on Sunday to move within one victory of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic men's football tournament.
Forward Cho Gue-sung opened the scoring for South Korea in the first half of the quarterfinals of the Asian Football Confederation U-23 Championship in Thailand.
Midfielder Lee Dong-gyeong later scored a free kick to break a tie in the dying seconds, giving his team a narrow win.
South Korea will face Australia in the semifinals on Wednesday at Thammasat Stadium in Rangsit.
Kickoff is scheduled at 8:15 p.m. local time or 10:15 p.m. in Seoul.
Another win will ensure South Korea to play at the Tokyo Olympics, but a loss will relegate the national team to the third-place match, where South Korea would be in a must-win situation against the other semifinals loser.■
