State-run cultural facilities in South Korea will reopen next week after having been shut down for over a month due to a surge in COVID-19 across the country.

The culture ministry said 23 museums and libraries, including the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the National Library of Korea, will open their doors to the public starting Monday.

This comes after the Korea Disease Control Prevention Agency deemed it safe to reopen the facilities under strict distancing and sanitary measures, including caps on maximum capacities.

Eleven performing arts venues such as the National Theater of Korea, the National Gugak Center will reopen as well.

The Gyeongju National Museum and the Jeju National Museum, however, will stay closed at the request of the respective local governments.
