The PGA of America is cutting ties with President Donald Trump following last week's deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.

President Jim Richerson said the organization voted on Sunday to take the 2022 PGA Championship event away from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Richerson said, "Our feeling was given the tragic events of Wednesday that we could no longer hold it at Bedminster. The damage could have been irreparable. The only real course of action was to leave.

It's the second time in over five years the PGA of America has removed one of its events from a Trump course.

In 2015, the Grand Slam of Golf at Trump National Los Angeles Golf Club was canceled after Trump made disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants when he announced he was seeking the Republican nomination for president.
