The International Olympic Committee and Japanese authorities are holding consultations with Belarusian sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who sought protection after being ordered home.

The athlete refused to get on a flight leaving Tokyo on Sunday, fearing punishment for criticizing her country's Olympic officials.

The IOC has asked for a full report from the Belarus Olympic Committee.

Belarusian journalist Hanna Liubakovo reports.

What we know so far is that she is still at the airport, however, she spent the night at a hotel.

And she says that she feels safe right now.

Yesterday, she spoke with the representatives of the International Olympic Committee.

Japanese police protects her and so basically she feels safe.

But her next steps are not clear because she said she would apply for asylum.

But she remains in Japan at this stage.
