The 102nd National Sports Festival is set to get underway for a seven-day run in North Gyeongsang Province.
An in-person opening ceremony will kick off the event at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Gumi Civic Stadium.
Competition will only be open to high school athletes amid concerns over the spread of COVID-19, meaning fans will not get the chance to see most medalists from the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The 2020 edition of the sports festival was postponed by a year because of the pandemic.
Around 3,000 athletes are expected to attend this year's event, a significant drop compared to some 30,000 athletes in 2019.
