South Korea defeated Syria 2-1 Thursday in their latest qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup.
Captain Son Heung-min scored a last-gasp winner at Ansan Wa Stadium, south of Seoul, Thursday night, breaking a 1-1 deadlock in the 89th minute with a left-footed volley from close range.
He gave his team a second straight victory on home soil ahead of a crucial away game.
The Taeguk Warriors will travel to Tehran to play Iran on Tuesday.
Unbeaten after three games, South Korea has climbed to the top of Group A in the final Asian qualifying round.
The top two teams from each group will automatically qualify for Qatar.
South Korea has played at every World Cup since 1986 in Mexico.
