As soon as they crossed the finish line, the team burst into tears.
Then they skated a victory lap around the rink, carrying the South Korean flag, while the theme song of the 88 Seoul Summer Olympics played in the background.
Shim Suk-hee said spectators helped them get gold.
"A lot of people came to cheer us on and because they were so supportive, we were encouraged and it helped us to finish with a good result."
It also marked Choi Min-jeong's second gold medal at the PyeongChang Games.
And it was also Team South Korea's second straight gold medal in the event and sixth victory in eight Olympic appearances.
Looking at Olympic action today, the host country will be rooting for veteran speed skater Lee Seung-hoon, who will be joined by Kim Min-seok and Chung Jae-won for the men's team pursuit.
They will face New Zealand in the semifinals at around 8:20 p.m.
The women will follow right after in their team pursuit race against Poland.
