Kakao Mobility and taxi franchise Tago Solutions have launched pilot operations of a no-refusal cab service in Seoul.
According to Tago Chief Executive Oh Kwang-won, the Waygo Blue service aims to resolve two key issues within the traditional taxi industry - drivers' refusal to pick up short-distance passengers and poor working conditions for drivers.
The Waygo service, available on the Kakao T mobile application, costs an extra 3,000 won to connect riders to drivers without revealing their final destination.
Waygo drivers will also be paid under a new wage system that allows them to earn an average monthly salary of 2.6 million won after working 52 hours.■
