Heavy traffic is in store for today on this Chuseok Day as many head to and from their hometowns after performing ancestral rites.
The Korea Expressway Corporation says around 6.2 million vehicles will hit the roads today, with some 500,000 cars heading back to the capital city.
Congestion on Seoul-bound lanes is forecast to peak between 3 and 5 p.m. with conditions easing up completely well past midnight, around 3 or 4 a.m.
For those heading out of Seoul, traffic will also be heavy throughout the day with delays expected to ease at around midnight.
The current estimated drive times show it will take 8 hours 40 minutes to drive from Busan to Seoul, 7 hours from Gwangju and nearly 5 hours from Gangneung.
In the opposite direction, driving out of Seoul, it will take 8 hours 20 minutes to Busan, over 7 hours to Mokpo and 4 hours 20 minutes to Daejeon.■
