The divorce between Samsung heiress and Hotel Shilla CEO Lee Boo-jin, and her estranged husband Im Woo-jae has been finalized, putting an end to a legal fight that lasted over five years.
The Supreme Court upheld today a lower court's decision ordering Lee to pay 14.1 billion won in an asset split to Im, a former employee of a Samsung affiliate.
Lee was granted parental rights and custody of their only child.
The couple's wedding in 1999 made headlines as a marriage between an heiress of the country's biggest business group and a rank-and-file employee at a Samsung affiliate.
The final ruling is seen as a win for the Samsung daughter, as Im had asked for 1.2 trillion won in dividing their assets.■
