The National Court Administration is advising courts nationwide to shut down for three weeks to control the spread of COVID-19.

Kim In-kyeom, head of the agency's pandemic response team, wrote on the judiciary`s internal bulletin board on Monday that it recommends judges consider being flexible in delaying and rescheduling hearings and sentencing dates.

Urgent matters, including arrests and court injunction requests, can be exempt from the recommendation as long as strict health protocols are in place.

Court officials are advised to work from home at least twice a week and not to travel out of town during the three-week closure.

The Supreme Prosecutors Office has also asked its regional offices to refrain from conducting face-to-face investigations and summons for the time being.
