An inmate at the Seoul Detention Center has died of COVID-19.
According to correctional authorities, the inmate, a man in his 30s, passed away Thursday morning at the detention center located in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province,
Officials said he was waiting to be transferred to an outside hospital for treatment and was also known to have a pre-existing medical condition.
The latest death has raised the number of COVID-related fatalities at prisons across the country to two.
On Sunday, an inmate from the Dongbu Detention Center died while receiving treatment for coronavirus disease at an outside medical facility.
