The drug safety ministry says it has approved five clinical trials of existing drugs with the potential to treat COVID-19 patients.
Three of the clinical trials involve the Ebola drug Ramdesivir to be carried out by Seoul National University Hospital and National Medical Center.
Asan Medical Center in Seoul and Gangnam Severance Hospital will conduct the remaining two tests using the AIDS treatment, Kaletra, and hydroxychloroquine, which is used to treat malaria.
The ministry said it gave the green light to the five clinical trials among 11 applications.
The ministry also said it approved six applications for testing the effectiveness of a local flu drug as treatment for COVID-19 patients.■
