Relentless rain that battered the central and southern regions from August 1, have displaced more than 7,800 people from their homes.

According to figures from the Central Disaster Management Headquarters as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, flooding, landslides and other accidents triggered by heavy rainfall have left 33 dead, nine missing and at least 8 injured.

The death toll does not count the casualties from the marine accident invovling three vessels that capsized at Uiam Dam in Chuncheon on Friday, which left four dead and two missing.

Disaster authorities said more than 24,000 cases of property damage were also reported, including private and public facilities.

Recovery efforts are underway.
