Cars are slowed by congestion on southbounds lanes of the Seohaeahn Expressway in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
Hundreds of thousands of cars are expected to hit roads across the country as people travel to and from their hometowns on this Chuseok Day.
Traffic heading out of the capital region on Thursday is expected to be the worse between 1 and 2 p.m. while congestion heading back towards the capital region will peak around 4 p.m. with conditions likely to ease past midnight.
As for current estimated drive times, it will take about 3 hours and 40 minutes to get from Seoul to Daejeon, four and half hours to reach Gangneung, around six hours to get to Daegu and Gwangju and nearly seven hours to Busan.
Drivers are reminded that toll fees will be collected over the holiday period, until Friday, while roadside rest stops are suspending dine-in services through Sunday.
