Jeong Eun-kyeong, the commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has been highlighted among a list of 100 "inspiring and influential" women of 2020 by the BBC.
In the annual list released by the British broadcasting company Monday, Jeong was recognized for her work in leading South Korea's response to the coronavirus, as well as her transparency and the calm she brings to her daily briefings.
It also cited a quote by the commissioner, in which she expressed her appreciation to all health care workers who have devoted themselves to responding to the pandemic.
Jeong was the only Korean on the list, which also includes Sarah Gilbert, who heads Oxford University's research into a COVID-19 vaccine, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh and Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow.
