The city of Goyang in Gyeonggi Province has declared an emergency standstill of its residents amid a sharp rise in local coronavirus infections.
Measures that aim to minimize movement will come into effect Saturday and continue through December 7.
They include a ban on rallies of 10 or more people and the closure of public indoor sports centers and saunas.
Residents will also be urged refrain from visiting nightlife establishments, singing rooms, welfare centers and health clinics.
In addition, cram schools will have to limit the number of students in communal spaces to 50 percent, while leisure facilities within apartment complexes will be off limits.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun appealed for public cooperation.
Goyang has reported new cases of COVID-19 every day this month, and has confirmed a total of 644 cases since the start of the pandemic.
