The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases at the Dongbu Detention Center in southern Seoul has risen to 792.
According to the justice ministry, the figure reported Wednesay includes 771 inmates.
Of the infected inmates, 409 of them are receiving treatment at the prison while others have been transferred to other correctional facilities for quarantine.
The Dongbu Detention Center also recorded its first COVID-19-related death.
The ministry said the infected inmate was in his 60s and died on Sunday while receiving treatment at an outside hospital for a separate underlying condition.
