The city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province has issued an administrative order requiring at least one person per household to get tested for COVID-19.
It is the first order of its kind nationwide.
Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok told reporters Monday that despite a slowdown in coronavirus infections across the country, his city continues to experience a spike in cases from clusters that have emerged from bathhouses and religious centers, among others.
More than 270 cases have been confirmed in the city in the past two months.
Under the latest order, violators could face a fine of 100,000 won.
