The central city of Daejeon has decided to upgrade its coronavirus social distancing scheme by one notch to Level 2 starting from Thursday.
Daejeon Metropolitan City said Wednesday it made the decision in response to a rise in cluster infections in the area, including at schools and churches.
Under the tightened distancing rules, elementary and middle schools will have to limit attendance to one-third capacity, while private academies will have to close at 10 p.m.
Local restaurants and cafes will also have to suspend dine-in services at 10 p.m., with only takeout and delivery available afterwards.
Daejeon is the latest city to toughen antivirus guidelines in recent days.
On Monday, Suncheon in South Jeolla Province announced it was enforcing Level 2 distancing for one week over a surge in new coronavirus cases.
