Memorials will be held across the South Korea Friday to mark seven years since the Sewol ferry tragedy, one of country's worst maritime disasters.
On April 16, 2014, more than 300 people were killed when the Sewol ferry sank in waters off the southwestern coast, most of them high school students on a field trip.
A ceremony will be held in remembrance of the victims at Hwarang Park in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, at 3 p.m., attended by bereaved families and government officials.
A one-minute siren will also sound in Ansan's Danwon District at 4:16 p.m. in tribute to the Sewol victims.
Services will also be held in Incheon and Jeju Island, as well as at the site of the sinking off Jindo in South Jeolla Province.
