The head of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has again urged people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, saying it's the only way for life to return to normal.
KDCA Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyeong made the remark Tuesday in response to a Cheong Wa Dae petition calling on officials to come up with more measures to deal with possible side effects from vaccine shots.
Jeong said she understands people are concerned and anxious about getting the shots, but stressed they are safe and will save lives.
Under a vaccine injury compensation program launched by the government this week, people who suffer severe adverse effects after getting vaccinated may be eligible to receive up to 10 million won in financial support, whether or not there is a causal link.
The KDCA chief reassured if causality is determined later on, more support will be provided.
Jeong added that the government will continue to listen to public opinion and make improvements in order to enhance trust in the national vaccination program.
