Drivers will be banned from parking and idling in all children protection zones nationwide beginning Thursday.
The National Police Agency said the move is in line with a revision to the Road Traffic Act.
The act was amended following multiple traffic accidents involving children.
Violators could face a fine of up to 120,000 won, with the penalty higher for drivers of vans at 130,000 won.
There will be some exceptions to the rule in areas designated by local police as children pick up and drop off zones.
Under the law, the area within a 300-meter radius from the main gate of an elementary school is designated as a children protection zone.
Last year, the speed limit for such zones was lowered to 30 kilometers per hour.
