The longest undersea tunnel in the country and the fifth-longest in the world is set to open to traffic at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Boryeong, Southcheong Province after 11 years of construction.
Connecting Daecheon Port in Boryeong to Yeongmok Port in Taean, the nearly 7 kilometer tunnel will cut the time it takes to go from one port to the other by 80 minutes, according to the land ministry.
That means it will only take around 10 minutes.
During a ceremony earlier Tuesday, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum congratulated the opening and said he hopes many tourists will visit the region next year.
