Special measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 during the extended Lunar New Year holiday will take effect Friday for six days.
The temporary restrictions include a ban on dine-in services at expressway rest stops, with only takeout allowed.
Travelers visiting rest stop facilities will have to undergo temperature checks and keep their masks on at all times.
Tolls will also be collected, the transport ministry said, in a move to encourage people to stay home and reduce the risk of infection.
In addition, additional coronavirus screening sites will be set up at major rest areas and transportation hubs to increase testing access.
