Officials say they have completed the operation to cut open the windows at the back of the fourth deck of the sunken Sewol ferry.
The disaster response team said they severed the 5 meter wide and one-and-a-half meter long outer hull panel, which will give divers easier access to areas where some of the missing are believed to be trapped.
A wide net has been installed around the area to prevent bodies from being lost.
The divers started to retrieve debris inside the vessel while focusing their search on the third and fourth decks.
The confirmed death toll stands at 290, with 14 passengers still unaccounted for. ■
