Seoul city is carrying out free COVID-19 testing to any residents who want to get tested for the virus.
According to Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon on Monday, seven hospitals have been designated to perform free tests as a preemptive measure to prevent further cluster infections in the city.
The city government aims to test 1,000 residents a week and also expand testing to those highly vulnerable to the novel coronavirus such as the elderly.
Previously, only those who had been in contact with confirmed patients or visited affected areas and showed related symptoms could get tested for free.
The city expects some 200,000 people will seek the preemptive testing in the second half of this year.
The move comes as concerns are on the rise in the metropolitan area over several different clusters ranging from religious facilities to door-to-door businesses.
