The Seoul Metropolitan Government issued on Wednesday a warning to prevent the freezing and bursting of water meters amid the cold wave.
A warning is issued when the temperature drops below minus 10 degrees Celsius for two straight days.
This is the first alert of its kind this winter and for the year.
Local residents are advised to leave their faucets running slightly, at a trickle, to prevent water pipes from freezing.
Incidents of broken water meters and pipes due to the cold weather can be reported to local waterworks offices or by calling the 120 Dasan Seoul Call Center.
