TBS is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its launch as the first traffic news broadcaster in South Korea.
For three decades, it has evolved from a radio station for traffic-related news that was the first to report on the 1994 collapse of the Seongsu Bridge in Seoul to the one that features the most tuned-in news program in the capital region.
The station underwent a major change this year from an affiliate directly managed by the Seoul city government to an independent media foundation as Mayor Park Won-soon explains.

"It took a while, but TBS has finally become an independent media foundation. The Seoul city government will continue to support the station but will not interfere with programming.”
TBS' new management philosophy is to be a regional public broadcasting service through which citizens can express their opinions and represent the Seoul metropolitan area for a better future.
President Lee Kang-taik said although no one has embarked on such a journey, he is confident that TBS will succeed.
