The government plans to resume discount coupon programs next month to boost private spending.
Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki told a meeting of economic officials Tuesday that nine types of coupons, including for sports, accommodations, tourism, cultural performances and food delivery, can be used offline from Monday.
Currently, only some of the coupons can be used online, while the rest have been temporarily suspended to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.
The return of the discount programs come as the country is set to gradually resume pre-pandemic activities in November.
Data from the Bank of Korea shows private spending grew 3.6 percent in the second quarter from three months earlier, accelerating from a 1.2 percent on-quarter gain in the first quarter.
