The head of telecommunications operator KT issued on Tuesday an official apology over a massive internet outage that paralyzed the country.
In a statement posted on KT's website, CEO Ku Hyeon-mo said he was sincerely sorry for inconveniences users faced when both cable and wireless internet services were down for about an hour on Monday.
Ku clarified that the disruption was due to routing errors, not a distributed denial of service or DDoS attack as the company had initially reported.
He vowed efforts to prevent such an incident from recurring and said the company will cooperate with government and police investigations into the cause of the outage.
Millions of KT customers nationwide experienced connectivity issues that disrupted everyday activities, including food delivery, credit card payments and online classes.
