President Moon Jae-in has said he expects South Korea's trade to hit all-time high of more than 1.2 trillion dollars this year on the back of strong exports.
He shared the projection Monday during a ceremony to mark the 58th Trade Day.
From January to November, cumulative exports came to 583.8 billion dollars, the highest to date, according to government figures, with total trade volume at 1.14 trillion dollars.
To cope with pandemic-triggered global supply chain concerns, the president noted that an early warning system was launched to monitor some 4,000 key industry materials and items.
He said no efforts would be spared to stabilize supplies.
Moon said Korea is also moving forward to achieve the bold goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
"The world is going carbon neutral," Moon said, adding that "only companies and products that reduce carbon emissions will become competitive under the new trade order."
