Owners of cafes and restaurants have slammed the government's decision to keep COVID-19 vaccine pass requirements on eateries while suspending its enforcement at other multiuse facilities, calling the move unfair.
The government said it will halt vaccine pass requirements at department stores, supermarkets, cram schools and theaters across the country starting Tuesday, after the Seoul Administrative Court ordered a suspension of vaccine pass checks at such facilities in the capital.
Officials said these public spaces were considered "low risk" because they require people to keep their protective face masks on.
Small merchants have also called upon the government to ease COVID-related business hour curfews.
On Monday, the government raised the cap on private gatherings to six while keeping a 9 p.m. curfew on cafes and restaurants for three more weeks.
