Concerns mount over mass transmission of COVID-19 in capital region
Concerns are rising over mass transmission of the new coronavirus in the capital region, which is home to some 25 million people.

Gyeonggi Province, which surrounds Seoul, is now the most affected area outside of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province -- the epicenters of the virus in South Korea.

Gyeonggi reported 15 new cases on Wednesday bringing its total to 277, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The latest cases are assumed to be linked to a church in the city of Seongnam, where at least 47 people were infected after Sunday services took place despite the government's social distancing advice.

Seoul added five more cases for a total of 270, more than a hundred of which are connected to the spread of the disease at a call center in the Guro District.

The western port city of Incheon added one more case to 32.

Government and health officials have been warning the public against complacency as the country continues to battle the virus epidemic.■
