Acting Seoul Mayor Seo Jeong-hyup is taking extended sick leave to deal with a personal medical issue.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government revealed late Wednesday Seo's leave of absence and plan to return to work on October 5, after the Chuseok holiday.
Seo had reportedly postponed an unspecified surgical procedure since July to deal with the coronavirus situation in the capital after former Mayor Park Won-soon's sudden death.
Deputy Mayor Kim Hak-jin will take over for the time being.
