Late-night subway services in Seoul are set to be reduced by 20 percent starting from 10 p.m. Friday as part of efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the move means there will be 33 less trains operating on Lines 1-8 for two hours until midnight.
A similar measure took effect for local buses earlier this week after the city declared a "standstill period" for its 10 million residents until the end of the year.
The cut in public transportation is aimed at deterring social gatherings and encouraging people to return home early.
Korail trains will also run on shortened schedules from Friday, with the last train on Lines 1 and 4, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line and Gyeongchun Line ending services at 12:30 a.m.
