Nineteen foreign nationals have been named honorary citizens of Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Monday its list of honorary citizens for 2020, including local TV personality Julian Quintart who hails from Belgium, Dr. Florian Marks of the Seoul-based International Vaccine Institute and Balaka Niyazee, a member of the city's Foreign Investment Advisory Council.
It is unclear when an awards ceremony will be held due to COVID-19, but certificates and medals have been sent to recipients, according to officials.
Seoul established the honorary citizenship system in 1958 to recognize non-Koreans who have contributed to the capital city's development and quality of life of local residents.
Since then, more than 850 people from 99 countries have been honored.
