Construction has begun on a so-called peace road connecting Yeongjong and Sindo, two Incheon islands.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon at Sindo Port with over 50 people in attendance, including Interior Minister Jeon Hae-cheol and Incheon Mayor Park Nam-choon.
Park said the road will be extended to Ganghwa Island in the near future, and one day will stretch all the way to the border city of Kaesong in North Korea.
The over 4-kilometer road will mainly consist of a two-lane bridge scheduled to be completed in 2025.
It will also have bicycle and pedestrian paths.
