The Seoul Metropolitan Government vowed Tuesday to strictly deal with all illegal rallies that are scheduled to be held in central Seoul on March 1, Independence Movement Day.
Some conservative groups earlier announced plans to stage rallies denouncing President Moon Jae-in at Gwanghwamun Square next Monday.
Last year, they were slammed for holding large anti-government rallies on Liberation Day on August 15, which were blamed for setting off the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in South Korea.
Rallies have been banned in the square, Seoul Plaza and Cheonggye Plaza since February 2020, in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.
